A Regional Healthcare Cooperative serving
Bethesda Memorial Hospital, Boca Raton Community Hospital and Martin Memorial
Healthcare System
Created in May 2003, SCM Alliance, Inc. (SCMA) is a regional healthcare
purchasing cooperative serving three shareholder organizations (Bethesda
Healthcare System, Boca Raton Community Hospital and the Martin Memorial Health
System). SCMA was incorporated to achieve a competitive advantage to better
assist its members in caring for their respective communities. SCMA develops
customized contracts for supplies and services tailored to meet its members
financial, clinical and logistical needs. SCMA works very closely with
CoalesCo, Ltd. (the SCMA Management Services Company) who is/was responsible
for the initial development, contract management/negotiations, financial
operations and the proper functioning of the organization in accordance with
its charter. Unlike large GPOs who focus on the needs of many hospitals
nationally, SCMA functions to support the local needs of its member
organizations and their respective communities. In doing so, SCMA involves all
stakeholders (hospital administration, departmental management, clinicians and
physicians) in the contracting process. After three years of operations, SCMA
has over 80 contracts and its members/shareholders have realized well over $20M
in savings.

"For many years Bethesda has worked closely with Boca Raton Community Hospital
and Martin Memorial Health Systems on various supply chain initiatives, both
with GPOs and Traditional Consulting Firms. CoalesCo has not only united this
group into a well functioning Purchasing Alliance, but is generating
significant and undeniable supply savings and new revenues that were not
delivered through prior supply chain initiatives. In fact, CoalesCo's
performance has not only exceeded their own forecasts but has exceeded that of
which any of the participating organizations deemed to be possible!"
Robert Taylor,
CFO, Bethesda Healthcare System

To provide our community high quality and cost effective health care.
"I have dealt with various healthcare supply chain consulting companies in the
past. Their fees are typically based on 'projected' savings, they are engaged
for short periods of time and they are not around at the end to see, or be
accountable, to whether or not those 'projected' savings are ever realized.
CoalesCo is the first company in my experience that not only works along side
of us but becomes part of our family. Our savings, and their corresponding
management fees, are based on actual realized savings. They are not
based on what we may have spent in the past, but what we actually spend going
forward. With CoalesCo at the helm, BRCH has and continues to realize
unprecedented savings based on invoice and rebate dollars. CoalesCo's expertise
has been instrumental in BRCH maximizing those savings."
Laurie Leon,
Director of Material Management,
Boca Raton Community Hospital

Our purchasing Cooperative, The SCM Alliance has been successful beyond our
wildest expectations. We have captured and earned the respect of the vendor
community and continue to leverage that respect into significant economic
benefits. Our success is a direct result of CoalesCo's management of the
Alliance and the direction and leadership they have given to our group. The
collaboration that the SCM Alliance founding hospitals have working on the
development of our contract portfolio has been inspiring. I am personally
involved in 6-7 of the SCM Alliance Committees and each one works well
together. CoalesCo has knit us into a cohesive, functional and successful group
and has led us in a manner you will not find anywhere else in the industry. The
results speak for themselves!!
